Pembridge House

I found the photo above on Pinterest and of course had to find the whole house.  Turns out the London townhouse was designed by Peter Mikic and featured in the April 2012 issue of Elle Decor.  You can read the whole story here as well as other photos. The designer studied fashion design before finding his true calling in decorating.  Seems like the perfect space to post before the kick off of fashion week.  Enjoy.

The Hogwarts House

I learned of another great designer recently, Rose Uniacke, whose London home is featured here.  She is not only an interior designer but the owner of a chic shop on Pimlico Road.  A love of antiques seems to run in the family.  Her mother, Hilary Batstone, also owned a shop for which Rose bought pieces while living in France.  Her husband, David Heyman, is the producer of the Harry Potter films and the home is a bit gothic which has led to it to be referred to as Hogwarts in the neighborhood. It was built in 1859 as a studio and home for the portrait painter James Rannie Swinton.  It needed extensive renovations by the time the couple bought the home.  I love that they restored it to look as it might have originally while only adding in a few modern touches in the kitchen and pool room. I bet it looks even more beautiful decorated for Christmas and it's too bad no one has photographed it for a holiday story.  Fingers crossed for next year. 

European Eclectic

I had planned to work on this post from the plane yesterday but the wifi had other ideas.  That's what I get for flying Delta instead of Virgin America.  But I digress.  I was catching up on my magazine reading when I noticed how much I loved Harper's Bazaar UK editor Kim Hersov's London home in the October issue of Elle Decor.  (You can read the entire story here.) It was designed with Hubert Zandberg and has that eclectic mix of periods and styles that Europeans do so well.  It also features pieces by Christian Astuguevielle who I posted about on Monday.  See, there is a method to my madness.
