Madrid Home of Maria de la Osa

Since I've been stuck on France for a bit, maybe it's time to mix things up again.  I just found the home of Madrid interior designer Maria de la Osa online and love her eclectic style already.  She has a great eye for mixing different periods and styles and I look forward to seeing more of her work in the future. 

This appears to be a different take on the same room above.  Also looks like they PhotoShopped out the door behind the screen when it was shot for Neuvo Estilo. 

Modern Mix in Madrid

I had to buy the December 2011 issue of Nuevo Estilo on Zinio to find out who designed this room.  Turns out it is antique dealer Alfonso Icaza who owns Bakelita in Madrid, Spain. In addition to fashion designers, I think antique dealers have the best homes.  They are so great at mixing pieces that probably passed through their shops and will probably pass through again on their way to someone else.  This is another great example of how Neoclassical pieces can coexist with modern art and furniture. The article is in Spanish and Google Translate is only so good but it sounds like Alfonso specializes in vintage pieces from the 1940's to the 1970's. More to Love in Madrid

Every search on the internet ends in a trip down the rabbit hole but it usually turns out for the best.  That's how I found this duplex apartment in Madrid designed by one of my favorite designers Lorenzo Castillo.  From what I can gather from my limited Spanish, it might be for his brother Santiago Castillo, an abstract artist whose work hangs in Lorenzo's apartment in the same building.  You might remember it from this post which I just realized I posted almost exactly one year ago.  Funny how that happens.  While it has a similar feel to Lorenzo's apartment the patterned wall covering creates a bold backdrop for the artwork. Also makes me want to move to Spain tomorrow.  Adios amigos!

Love how the kitchen was styled for a magazine shoot with the basket woven bull heads. 

The spiral staircase leads up to the bedroom.

Too bad we don't have spaces like this in America.

Classic Meets Modern

I was trying to find who designed the bedroom in this apartment last week to no avail.  Then today, I stumbled upon it while looking for something else.  Don't you just love when that happens? Turns out it is the Madrid apartment of Ramon Garcia Juardo and his partner Paco Pocovi who live and work together.  It was featured in Nuevo Estilo.  The space itself is clean and modern so the classical elements bring in the architectural details. The mirrored walls and ceiling add depth and bounce the light. It feels like what Bill Blass's apartment would have looked like if he moved to Spain and mixed things up.  It also another one of those interiors that make me want to throw out all the color in my apartment.  Maybe I'll just start with a little rearranging.  Bon weekend!
