Wicker Park

Warmer weather doesn't just mean lighten up your wardrobe.  It's also a great time to lighten up your decor. There is nothing that says summer like wicker, rattan, bamboo, and other natural fiber furniture. It's not just for outside or beach houses either.  As you can see from these examples, it looks pretty great everywhere.

For Whom the Chair Tolls

I'm looking forward, as always, to the day when I have a big house with some outdoor space.  When I do, I am definitely buying some vintage Tolix chairs for around my table.  They were designed in 1934 by Xavier Pauchard who pioneered the process of galvanization in France.  The sturdy, stackable, and rustproof chair became popular in commercial offices as well as outdoor bistros and public parks.  As you can see from these images, they still work well in a multitude of spaces and are also available in colors and as stools.  As Martha might say, "they're a good thing."

Outdoor Chic

Since I live in New York City and don't have a terrace, looking at outdoor furniture can be depressing but visiting the Lane Venture showroom in High Point Market was actually inspiring.  I can't wait to own a pool and patio someday so I can own some of theit cool European inspired chairs and lounges.  I also learned a lot about the flow through fabrics that allow you to leave your outdoor pillows and cushions out in the rain.  They even make fully upholstered outdoor furniture now.  I think we're going to have to fast track our pool plan now!
