Sweater Weather

When I first saw the cover image of the Wall Street Journal Magazine last week, it looked more appropriate for September not May but the jokes on me.  It's currently 45 degrees in New York and this cable knit sweater from The Row would be perfect to wear today.  The magazine is inside the Saturday, May 25 edition of the Wall Street Journal newspaper.  Make sure you pick it up. It will give you something to read while you're warming your feet in front of the fire in The Hamptons.

Fabulous Forsythia

Flowering branches are the best mood lifter every spring.  I went out looking for Quince or Cherry Blossoms last week but could only find Forsythia in my neighborhood.  They turned out to be the perfect complement to my gallery wall and tablescape and were the best $18 I've ever spent.  

Funny enough, the Off Duty section of the Wall Street Journal newspaper had a feature on hiding televisions in plain sight.  Mine blends in with the gallery wall of art as best a big black rectangle can but for more ideas, you can read the article here.

The New WSJ Magazine

I apologize for another short post but I'm still under the weather.  One bright spot today was receiving an advance copy of the new WSJ Magazine with new editor Kristina O'Neill at the helm.  I've been reading it already and I think you're going to like it just as much as you did before.  It will be inside the Wall Street Journal newspaper on Saturday, February 16th so don't forget to pick it up so you have something new to read over the long weekend.

Chic Reading: WSJ Magazine

I had to go to multiple stores yesterday to find a copy of the Wall Street Journal with the December WSJ Magazine insert.  If you missed it yesterday, you can luckily read all the stories online.  You should definitely read All the Pretty Houses about designer Daniel Romualdez and his gorgeous homes seen here and also the features on Herve van der Straeten and John Derian. It's Hip to be Square

I was worried that the Wall Street Journal Magazine wouldn't continue to excite after editor in chief Deborah Needleman decamped to T magazine.  Luckily, the November Special Innovators Issue I picked up today didn't disappoint. I especially loved reading more about Twitter and Square founder Jack Dorsey.  You can read the entire story here but it was his journal pages that really inspired me.  I'm always busy but I wonder if I could be working smarter.  It's also easy to get discouraged by nasty comments and rude emails.  Jack Dorsey's "field notes" are a reminder to keep my eye on the prize while always striving to do the right thing.  

Lovely Liaigre

I first became acquainted with the work of Christian Liaigre a few years back.  A certain designer loved to use his furniture in his projects.  It never really had the same effect since the interiors were also modern.  I've said it before and I'll say it again but contemporary furniture looks best to me in the elaborate boiseried apartments of Europe.  Christian Liaigre furniture therefore looks really amazing in the designer's own Paris apartment that was just featured in the Wall Street Journal Magazine.  Christian Liaigre has also opened a new showroom in New York at 34 East 61st Street and I can't wait to stop by as soon as the weather cools off.

The Battle for Hermès

While preparing for the hurricane last weekend, you might have missed excellent article, The Battle for Hermès in the Wall Street Journal.  For those of you who don't know, Bernard Arnault, the owner of LVMH, has been buying up shares of Hermès in an attempt to add the venerable brand to his stable of luxury goods companies that includes Louis Vuitton, Fendi, and Givenchy among others.  While I like LVMH brands, they seems to be a lot of more glitzy and glam than the understated luxury of Hermès.  It will definitely be interesting to see how this new French revolution plays out.  The feature was written by Dana Thomas, the author of Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster and I love the accompanying photos by Brigitte Lacombe.  Also makes me want to take riding lessons so I can order a saddle.  They are almost more beautiful than the bags.

A Rocker's Retreat

I forgot that Deborah Needleman's first Wall Street Journal Magazine was published yesterday.  Luckily for me and eveyone else who neglected to pick up the paper, you can read the articles online. One of my favorites is a look inside the London home of gentleman rocker Bryan Ferry.  He's always had an interest in interior design and has furnished his home himself with art and objects that he's collected.  I definitely recommend reading the entire story online as well as Charlotte Moss's article about Le Prieuré d’Orsan.  The issue is so good that I might have to go see if my newsstand has an extra copy lying around.
