Judging a Room by its Covers

Not only am I going to need a library to house all my books someday but shelves on which to display my favorite covers.  A lot of time and effort goes into the cover art of books so why not display them as you would a painting. Chandelier Creative, above, even opens some of them up.  Now that is creative.

Books, Books, and More Books

While in Toronto, I was part of an interesting conversation about design and books led by the founder of Indigo Books, Heather Reisman.  She said there are two types of book lovers.  The first are voracious readers who always have a book with them and buy a new book before they finished with their current book.  The second are book collectors, people who love books because they are beautiful and remind them of certain times in their life.  Clearly I fall in the latter category as I think most people do in the worlds of design and fashion. I admire books not just for their content but their beautiful covers and history.  I love to display them so I can see them each day.  This was definitely something I thought about when working on my book Creativity at Work.  It's rare that people sit down to read coffee table books but I'm thrilled that so many are doing just that and also love its orange cover.  In honor of all the book collectors out there, I've put together a compilation of my favorite libraries and bookshelves.  Enjoy.

Habitually Chic Book Announcement

I am beyond excited to finally announce that I am working on a Habitually Chic Book!  I met with and talked to many publishers but felt an instant connection at powerHouse Books.  They got my concept immediately and I could tell that I would have more creative control of the final product. It was my intention to not put out a "blogger" book per se but one that will appeal to Habitually Chic readers as well as those who have never heard of my blog.  I can't give away the exact title or premise just yet but it will include the chicest of the chic from the worlds of interior design, fashion, art, and other creative industries.  I will also be the photographer which is very exciting and nerve wracking.  If all goes well, it will be released Fall 2012.  As someone who loves books, I can't wait to place my own book along side my favorites on my bookshelves and I hope you will too!

A Mystery Solved

A big thanks go out to Christina at Full House for letting me know that the bookshelves I posted yesterday were from Nuevo Estilo and to Gracia who completed the puzzle by letting me they were designed by Isabel López-Quesada.  I absolutely love the blue sofa and mirrored wall just as much as the lacquered shelves and it was nice to see the complete design.  The view from the terrace of Madrid is pretty fantastic too!  Enjoy!
